BoxHeart was founded by Nicole Capozzi and Joshua Hogan. Since inception it’s been integral to the Pittsburgh art community, representing a diverse program of emerging, underrepresented, and self-taught artists. The very first exhibit, “Art of this Century”, showcased — literally — hundreds of regional artists. Ten years later, in 2011, we purchased the 4523 Liberty Avenue building and began the process of renovating the upper floors. We inaugurated our expanded gallery/home space in 2017 with the exhibition “Almost 17 and #werestillhere”.
For over 20 years, BoxHeart has worked exclusively in the primary market exhibiting exceptional, contemporary artists creating right now. Our exclusive commitment to our artists allows for an intensive focus that has helped expand their artistic careers. Many of BoxHeart Gallery’s artists are included in permanent collections, have exhibited in museums across the United States, and have received prestigious public art projects, artistic fellowships and residencies.
